Each year the Ramanujan School of Mathematics in Patna selects 30 teenagers and prepares them to compete for the Indian Institutes of Technology. They come from low-caste backgrounds but they have a talent for mathematics. The school is subsidised by its founder, Anand Kumar; once admitted, the students pay nothing. If successful, they’ll be on a fast track from grinding poverty to the cutting edge of technology and business. Today’s Indian software millionaires live in Silicon Valley; this is the astonishing story of where the next generation will come from. It’s about ambition in India today, and how talent and determination can overcome the greatest obstacles. This film follows the most recent Super 30, from their initial selection in September 2006 to the moment when they get their IIT results in May 2007. About The Director

Christopher Mitchell is an award-winning writer, producer and director of television documentaries. He is currently Managing Director of the independent production company ORTV, where he acts as executive producer of all the company’s productions. He has worked as an independent film-maker since 1988, and has a particular interest in the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East. He has made documentaries for all the major British channels and numerous international TV networks. His films range across the fields of culture, history, politics and current affairs and have been shown all over the world. He is also a writer and lecturer.
