Synopsis

Director: Michael Perlman

This ” emotional, compelling, riveting” (New York Times) award winning film highlights a remarkable true story of courage and the power of positive thinking. With an opening by Richard Gere, the documentary follows a Tibetan Buddhist nun and monk , who at the ages of 13 and 20, led freedom demonstrations against the Chinese repression in Tibet. They were arrested and horribly tortured but inspired by the Dalai Lama found a way beyond fear. After Ngawang, along with other nuns, smuggled out a tape of freedom songs that reached the West, it galvanized the international community into action that culminated in her release. The International Campaign For Tibet, Amnesty International and Students For Free Tibet support this film.
